MARUDI: The first Orang Ulu woman community leader, Temenggong Elizabeth Deng
of Long Laput in central Baram from the Kayan community who replaced former
Temenggong Pahang Deng Anyie, has promised that she will visit every longhouse under
her jurisdiction.When giving her first speech as Temenggong at Long Ikang longhouse
recently after receiving her appointment letter, she said she would travel to the longhouses
whenever she had the time.Elizabeth was accompanying Telang Usan assemblyman
Dennis Ngau at the meet-the-people session. She also said she would visit the several
Kenyah longhouses under her jurisdiction.Others joining the visit were Penghulu Herbert
Lawai Epoi (of Berawan/Kiput community) and Penghulu Thedeus Lenjau Kuleh
(of Kenyah community).
